Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To enhance the reproducibility of color tone, by applying electrolytic treatment to stainless steel in an aqueous sulfuric acid solution with a specific concn. under a specific condition prior to color the same in a chromic acid- sulfuric acid mixed solution to uniformize the surface properties thereof. CONSTITUTION:In coloring stainless steel in a chromic acid-sulfuric acid mixed solution, as the pretreatment thereof, the stainless steel is subjected to electrolytic treatment in an aqueous sulfuric acid solution with a concn. of 1.0- 8.0wt% at a solution temp. of 20-80 deg.C for 15-60sec under a condition of 0.5- 3.0A/dm current density by using the stainless steel as an anode. By this treatment, an oxide film formed on the surface of stainless steel is removed to form a new dense passivation film and the reproducibility of color tone and the control of saturation in coloration treatment can be performed.
