Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:To bleach continuously an ester of an alpha-sulfofatty acid without forming a dimetallic salt as a by-product not requiring the step for adding water, by mixing an ester of an alpha-sulfofatty acid with an alcohol, and bleaching the resultant mixture with hydrogen peroxide. CONSTITUTION:An ester of a fatty acid expressed by the formula RCH2COOR' (R is 10-20C straight or branched chain alkyl; R' is 1-6C straight or branched chain alkyl) is sulfonated to give an ester of the alpha-sulfofatty acid, which is then mixed with a 1-6C alcohol, e.g. methanol, ethanol or butanol. Hydrogen peroxide is then added to bleach the resultant mixture at 50-100 deg.C for 5-120min and give the aimed light-colored ester of the alpha-sulfofatty acid. The amount of the alcohol to be added is 5-30pts.wt. based on 100pts.wt. ester of the alpha-sulfofatty acid, and that of the hydrogen peroxide is 0.2-10pts.wt. An ester salt of the alpha-sulfofatty acid obtained by neutralizing the resultant ester is useful as a detergent surfactant. |
