Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To prevent build-up of hearth rolls by providing a means for detecting the displacement of a strip to be passed between the hearth rolls, comparing the same with a permissible displacement value and controlling the tension or speed. CONSTITUTION:A displacement gage 5 is provided between hearth rolls 2 and 2 in a continuous annealing furnace 3 and the displacement of a strip 1 from the path thereof is detected. The displacement signal is outputted to a controller 6 which compares the signal with a permissible displacement rate. The controller outputs a fluttering control signal to a tension control system 7 or speed control system to control the rotating speed of the rolls 2 or the driving force of bridle rolls, etc. according to said difference, thereby suppressing generation of fluttering 4. The build-up of the rolls 2 is thoroughly prevented by such mechanism.
