ENCODING SYSTEM

PURPOSE:To improve visual characteristics without projecting any irregular signal on a monitor by detecting a break of an input signal, transmitting information on the break of input to a reception side, and setting an output to a specific value on a reception side. CONSTITUTION:A video signal is inputted from an input terminal 1 and an input break detecting circuit 2 detects, for example, whether a horizontal synchronizing signal is present or not. When >=(n) horizontal synchronizing signals are not detected continuously, that is regarded as a break of input and the input break information is sent out to a frame constituting circuit 4. An encoding circuit 3, on the other hand, encodes the input video signal to output encoded data to the frame encoding circuit 4, and the encoded data is multiplexed there with the input break information on time-division basis and sent out to a digital transmission line 6. A frame decomposing circuit 8 on the reception side separates the input into video information and input break information, and when the input break information is detected, the whole of the video signal is set to a specific level and outputted.
