PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive printer including a simplified press-contacting mechanism by providing an elastic member which energizes a thermal head so that a gap is left betweenthe tip of the head and the notched part of a rotating drum when the thermal head faces the notched part. CONSTITUTION:When image receiving paper 101 is inserted between an image receiving paper fixing device 103 and a rotating device 102, the image receiving paper 101 rotates while wound around the rotating drum 102, and when the drum rotates up to a print start point on the image receiving paper 101, an electrical signal is sent to the thermal head 105, which performs transfer to the image receiving paper 101. When the rotating drum 102 further rotates up to a print end point, the electrical signal is ceased and thus printing of one color is completed. At this time, there is gaps formed between the thermal head 105 and transfer paper 104, and transfer paper 104 and image receiving paper attaching device 103, so a cartridge 15 is attached or detached at right angles to the paper surface.
