METHOD FOR GRINDING ROLL OF ROLLING MILL

PURPOSE:To grind a rolling roll into flat without dismounting the roll from a mill by grinding the roll by a belt grinding device capable of controlling the speed of a grinder moving on the roll surface in the longitudinal direction of roll, a force for pressing the grinder against the roll, and the speed of the grinder itself. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a rolling roll 11 is ground into a flat one by pressing a belt grinder 12, rotated endlessly by a driving roll 16, against the ruggedly formed surface of the roll 11 by a touch roll 13. In this case, a grinding device is attached onto a slider 18 which moves the device in the radial direction of roll 11, and the slider 18 is also attached onto a slider 19 which moves in the axial direction of roll 11. Thus the surface of roll 11 is ground into a flat one without dismounting the roll 11 from a mill, by moving the device on the roll 11 surface along the roll 11 axial line from one end to the other end thereof, and controlling the speed of belt grinder 12, its moving speed in the roll axial direction, and a force for pressing it against the roll 11 in accordance with the surface ruggedness of roll 11.
