Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To adjust finely and automatically the molten metal surface in a mold by actuating the stopper of a vessel for the molten metal in a continuous casting device by means of a mechanism for adjusting the opening degree of the stopper which is a specific mechanism by the position signal for the molten metal surface in the mold. CONSTITUTION:The quantity of the gamma-ray generated from a gamma-ray generating source 61 and transmitted through the inside of a mold 5 for continuous casting is detected with a measuring device 62 and the position of the molten metal surface in the mold 5 is decided in the stage of charging the molten steel 10 in a tundish 2 into the mold 5. The signal thereof is inputted to a control circuit 4 of a servocontrol motor 33 to actuate an actuating arm 32 having the fulcrum of a lever on a stationary arm 31, a coupling arm 38 coupling the arm 32 and the top end of a stopper 1 at the actuating point of the lever, and a mechanism 3 for adjusting the opening degree of the stopper connecting the top end of the arm 31 and the arm 38 by means of a restraining arm 39, by which the stopper 1 is finely and automatically adjusted in the position of the molten metal surface in the mold 5 and the molten steel surface in the mold 5 is maintained always at a specified position.
