METHOD FOR SUPPORTING SHORT SIDE OF BILLET IN CONTINUOUS CASTING INSTALLATION

PURPOSE:To provide a stable titled supporting method by moving the respective blocks of supporting devices for the short side of a billet in the transverse direction of the billet so as to maintain a specified interval on the short side of the billet and supporting the short side of the billet by respective block only when the billet expands partially on account of bulging. CONSTITUTION:The movable mold 2 of a mold 1 is moved to a desired size position in the stage of changing the width size of a billet 6 during casting. The moving position of the wall 2 is detected with a synchronizing device 20 during this time and the casting time is integrated with respect to the time axis; otherwise, the positional relation of the tapered part 18 of the billet with respect to respective billet supporting devices 12, 13 is tracked at several second intervals by means of a separately installed counter for the overall length of the billet while the tapered part 18 passes the counter during the width changing. The numerical value obtd. by adding a prescribed size to the billet width obtd. by such detection is determined as a set value and the devices 12, 13 are respectively moved in accordance with the set value. The attainment of the set value is checked by the signals from the synchronous oscillators 21, 22 of the devices 12, 13.
