Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To provide a low hydrogen type coated electrode having the good resistance to dislodging of a covering and moisture absorption and having excellent low temp. toughness by incorporating a small amt. of anhydrous borax subjected to a heating treatment in a covering material and covering said material on a steel core wire with water glass as a binder. CONSTITUTION:An hydrous borax which is subjected to a heating treatment at 130-700 deg.C to release water of crystallization is incorporated at 0.3-3.0% in a covering material having a prescribed compsn. for a low hydrogen type covered electrode, and such covering material is covered on a steel core wire by using water glass as a binder, by which a low hydrogen type coated electrode is obtd. Such rod has good productivity, a low rate of dislodging of the covering, has high resistance to moisture absorption and good low temp. toughness.
