Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a top blowing lance by passing a gas cooled to a prescribed low temp. through the lance after agitating molten metal to cool the lance effectively. CONSTITUTION:Molten metal is agitated with a top blowing lance 1 composed of a metallic pipe 2 having a gas passing hole 2' and of refractories 3 enclosing the pipe 2. After agitating the molten metal, a gas cooled to -20--150 deg.C is passed through the pipe 2. The lance is effectively cooled, and the life of the lance is prolonged.
