METHOD AND DEVICE FOR LAPPING

PURPOSE:To impose an uniform load to a specimen to obtain a highly accurate finished surface by a method wherein the specimen and a jig are arranged at the base and the apex of an equilateral triangle and the jig is permitted to pivot freely in a free surface. CONSTITUTION:The rectangular specimen 21 is adhered to the jig 22 to hold it, the height of one end of the lapping jig 23 is adjusted by a height adjusting ring 26 and the vertical load is imposed to the specimen by a loading rod 29. The load is distributed to the center of the shaft 25 or the jig 24, that means the apex of the equilateral triangle, and the base of the triangle of the specimen 21 while the jig 24 is constituted so as to be pivotable, therefore, the specimen 21, corresponding to the base of the triangle, is contacted with a lap level block 31 perfectly in the condition of surface contact and the distributed laod is imposed on the whole surface of the specimen 21. A movement, due to the error in the flatness of the level block 31, is followed by a spherical bearing 30, therefore, the load, being imposed to the specimen 21 during grinding, may be kept in uniform.
