AIR CONDITIONER

PURPOSE:To prevent the temperature of a compressor from reaching the upper limit temperature again by a method wherein the restarting of the compressor, the temperature of which has once reached the upper limit temperature, is performed after the temperature of refrigerant is cooled to room temperature. CONSTITUTION:A control device 12 controls the indoor fan 9 of an indoor unit 10 side and the compressor 4 of an outdoor unit 15 side so as to change their rotational frequencies and to stop them. During heating operation, when the temperature of the compressor 4 exceeds the upper limit temperture T1, which is set higher than the set indoor temperture T2 by an allowable temperature width (a), the control device 12 suppresses the rotational frequency of the indoor fan 9 below 800rpm and stops the fan 9 later than the stop of the compressor 4 and then, after the elapse of a certain fixed period of time since the stop of the compressor 4, puts the compressor 4 into rotation at low speed for a predetermined period of time in order to discriminate whether the temperature of the compressor 4 reaches the lower limit temperature T3, which is set lower than the set indoor temperature T2 by an allowable temperature width (b), or not. Accordingly, the second excess of the compressor temperature over the upper limit temperature due to the overloading of the compressor can be prevented, resulting in enabling to operate the compressor continuously.
