Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:To thermally insulate a piston-head surface and provide improvement in engine efficiency, etc. by casting a piston to be installed in a cylinder of an internal-combustion engine, with a material of the iron group while chilling its head side and making it into a cementite structure. CONSTITUTION:A piston 1 is almost cylindrically formed with cast iron, several ring grooves 2 are formed on the peripheral part near its head side, and a recess 3 is formed inside the piston 1. The piston 1 also has a pair of mutually opposing bosses 4 projecting inward, on its lower end side, and pin holes 5, through which a piston pin is inserted, is formed in the bosses 4. In this case, the head part 6 of the piston 1 is made of cast iron which is chilled and formed into a cementite structure. For example, when casting the piston 1, a metal mold is applied to its head part 6 side to cool the part earlier than the rest of the piston, providing a cementite structure having low heat conductivity. |
