MAGNETIC RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To detect accurately residual amount of tape of tape running state by generating a tape residual amount signal (CTL-B signal) in which the period of output is increased in the manner of arithmetic series by means of a tape residual amount signal generating circuit. CONSTITUTION:In an audio control head, a magnetic head 16 (CTL-B head 16) for tape residual amount signal recording and reproducing which records or reproduces the tape residual amount signal (CTL-B signal) is provided additionally at the side of a control head 15 in addition to an audio head 14 and the said head 15. In this case, the CTL-B signal outputted from a CTL-B signal generating circuit 18 is constituted that the pulse output period is increased in arithmetic series. Then, the tape running state such as tape residual amount, running time or the like is grasped accurately at the reproduction.
