Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To obtain polysulfide carbonate excellent in impact resistance, heat resistance, and cracking resistance, by reacting a dihydroxy sulfide compound with a higher proportion, by mole, of phosgene. CONSTITUTION:In the production of polysulfide carbide by reacting a dihydroxy sulfide compound with phosgene; the molar ratio of phosgene to the dihydroxy sulfide compound is adjusted to as high as at least 1.145. Hydrochloric acid which is a by-product formed in the above reaction can play an important role of maintaining the reaction system acidic and of protecting sulfide bonds. This acidic substance may be added intentionally in the initial stage of the reaction. This reaction by-product is discharged as such or distilled off as hydrogen chloride gas by heating, when it becomes unnecessary.
