POLYPHENYLENE SULFIDE RESIN MOLDING MATERIAL

PURPOSE:To provide the titled resin molding material well suited for prepn. of moldings excellent in moldability, electrical insulating properties, and humidity resistance, by incorporating a polyphenylene sulfide resin and a particular calcium silicate of high purity at a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:A molding material which comprises 30-50wt% polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) resin, 0-40wt% glass fiber, and 10-70wt% calcium silicate of high purity having an ignition loss of 1.0% or below, a purity of 97.5% or above and a median diameter of the particle is 8-14mu. The glass fiber is pref. about 5-20mu in diameter and about 0.5-10mm. in length, and a chopped strand with 13mu in diameter and 3mm. in length is particularly pref. Smaller amts. of the glass fiber to be mixed in moldings are economically pref. For instance, for applications where the strength of moldings is not particularly required, glass fiber is unnecessary for mixing and the blend of PPS resins with calcium silicate of high purity is satisfactory.
