Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To prepare an easily workable polyester-amic acid capable of giving a heat-resistant polymer, by reacting a specific amino-alcohol with an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid anhydride and a derivative thereof and an aromatic halide under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:One or more amino-alcohols expressed by the formula (Z is bifunctional organic group having two or more carbon atoms), e.g. 2-aminoethanol, are reacted with one or more aromatic carboxylic acid anhydrides and derivatives thereof, e.g. pyromellitic acid anhydride, and one or more aromatic acid halides, e.g. isophthaloyl chloride, under substantially anhydrous conditions in a polar organic solvent, e.g. N,N-dimethylacetamide, while kept at 100 deg.C or below to prepare the aimed polyester-amic acid.
