Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To greatly reduce the run-in operation of a tooth cutter to greatly enhance the activity rate of the tooth cutter, by providing a means for compensating the relative position between a cutter shaft and a work shaft in accordance with a compensated amount based upon the difference between temperatures upon starting of machining and during machining. CONSTITUTION:A radial feed control device comprises a control console 11, a control device 12, an actuator 13, a temperature sensor 14 for measuring a machine representing point, etc. In the case of that a gear to be cut is machined from a cold start, the operator operates a reset button on the control console 11. With this button operation, the temperature T0 of a machine representing point at that time is measured by a sensor 14, and is compared with a temperature T0 stored in a memory 17 upon resetting. The result of the comparison is delivered to a first computing section 16 in which an approximate specific length compensating amount X0 due to thermal deformation is previously computed and from which the thus obtained amount X0 is delivered to a second computing section 15. Even if the relative position between the outer diameter of a cutter and the actuator varies due to thermal deformation, the cut amount of a gear to be cut may be maintained constant by applying the compensating value into the actuator.
