Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To convert the 9-position acetyl group of an anthracycline antibiotic substance to 1-hydroxyethyl group, effectively, in high yield, by reducing the group with a specific yeast. CONSTITUTION:An anthracycline antibiotic substance having an acetyl group at the 9-position, e.g. FA-1180-A (rubeomycin A), daunomycin, carminomycin, etc., or its acid addition salt, is reduced with a yeast belonging to Rhodotorula or Rhodosporidium genus. The acetyl group is converted to 1-hydroxyethyl group, and FA-1180-B (rubeomycin B), dihydrodaunomycin, dihydrocarminomycin, etc. can be prepared in high efficiency and yield, by this process.
