VERTICAL MAGNETIZATION TYPE MAGNETIC RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To record and reproduce an analog signal which scarcely has distortion, by executing pulse width modulation of an analog input signal, converting it to a recording magnetic field having larger amplitude than that of a magnetization inverted magnetic field, and executing the vertical magnetization recording. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic tape 1 is constituted by providing a recording layer 1c whose vertical magnetic anisotropy is sharp, through a high permeability magnetic layer 1b, on a base 1a. The vertical magnetic anisotropy of the recording layer 1c has a rectangular sharp hysteresis characteristic, and inverts its magnetization suddenly by receiving a magnetic field which exceeds a magnetization inverted magnetic field. A recording head 7 converts a pulse width modulating signal to a signal magnetic field having larger amplitude than that of the magnetization inverted magnetic field, and applies it to the tape 1. In this way, on the recording layer 1c of the tape 1, residual magnetization inverted in the vertical direction in accordance with positive and negative pulses of the pulse width modulating signal is formed, in which vertical magnetization recording by pulse width modulation of an input signal is executed with high density.
