Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To obtain a recording medium having good characterisitics in a short wavelength region and weather resistance, by gradually reducing oxygen contained in a magnetic vapor-deposited ferromagnetic film formed on a nonmagnetic base in the direction going apart from the base surface. CONSTITUTION:A nonmagnetic base 12 of a polyester film or the like is rotated along a cylindrical can 11 in a vacuum vessel S1 in the arrow direction. A ferromagnetic metal, such as Co or Ni, placed below the base 12 is vapor deposited as an evaporation source 14 to the base 12, using a mask 15 between the base 12 and the source 14. At that time, an gaseous oxygen-introducing part 16 is provided, and incident angle is continuously changed form thetamax to thetamin by rotation of the base 12 so as to gradually reduce oxygen contained in the vapor- deposited film in the direction going apart form the base 12 except the vicinity of its surface. The magnetic metallic film may be formed in plural layers. This magnetic recording material has good characteristics in a short wavelength region and superior weather resistance.
