REMOVING METHOD OF PROTEIN

PURPOSE:To obtain a ganglioside of high purity useful as a medicine, by adsorbing the ganglioside containing proteins in a column, eluting the ganglioside with a mixed solvent of a nonpolar with a polar solvents stepwise, and removing the proteins without changing the component composition ratio. CONSTITUTION:A ganglioside containing proteins is dissolved in a mixed solvent and then adsorbed in an inorganic adsorbent, e.g. silicic acid, acid clay or active carbon, or a synthetic adsorbent, e.g. ''Amberlite XAD-2 resin '', and eluted with a solvent by changing the solvent composition ratio stepwise to remove the proteins from the ganglioside. The elution and separation are preferably carried out by eluting the adsorbed ganglioside first with a nonpolar solvent, e.g. chloroform or methylene chloride, and then a mixed solvent in which a polar solvent, e.g. methanol or ethanol, is added increasingly stepwise to the nonpolar solvent, preferably 10% increment. The volume of the mixed solvent necessary for the elution is preferably 4-8 times the volume of the colume respectively.
