Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To heighten trap ratio of particulate and to depress increase of pressure loss by increasing gas permeability of wall of a honeycomb structure and making the surface layer exceedingly porous. CONSTITUTION:Cordierite fiber, methyl cellulose, water and lubricant are mixed and kneaded. A honeycomb structure is extruded using a mold that extrudes the mixture, and dried after cutting. Next, the dried product is heated to burn up methyl celllulose and wax, and calcined until the cordierite fibers are sintered together. After cooling, the honeycomb filter thus obtained is held in a metallic case 5 through a metallic heat resisting cushion and made to form a trapper. Consequently, trap ratio of particulate can be heightened and a small-sized filter can be designed easily.
