Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain the portable device without measuring errors, by using a compound type probes comprsing two lateral ultrasonic wave vibrators which have a relative angle of 90 deg. in a vibating direction at the close positions on the same plane and transmitting and receiving the lateral ultrasonic wave. CONSTITUTION:A high frequency continuous oscillation signal is applied on high frequency pulse oscillating signals 11 and 12 from a high frequency oscillator 10. Meanwhile the output of a synchronizing signal oscillator 13 is connected to the high frequency pluse oscillators 11 and 12. The high frequency pulses are generated only when the synchronizing signal pulses are generated. The high frequency pulses excite the vibrators 2 and 3 and the lateral ultrasonic wave pulses are injected in the rail. As a result, the ultrasonic wave pulses which are repeatedly reflected in the rail 1 are again converted to the high frequency pylses by the vibrators 2 and 3. Then they are amplified by high frequency amplifiers 14 and 15. The transmission path lengths of the ultrasonic waves which are suitable for the measurement are selected by gate circuits 16 and 17. Only the necessary reflected waves, i.e. the signals which are converted into the high frequency pulses, are sent to shaping circuits 18 and 19.
