PURPOSE:To facilitate assembling of an electrolytic cell in an electrolytic cell wherein finger-type anodes coated with cation exchange membranes on the surfaces thereof and a cathode are combined in a liner system, by coupling two sheets of the anode side walls in the leading end parts of the anode by means of a soluble resin or metal under anode chamber conditions. CONSTITUTION:In an electrolytic cell which yields caustic alkali, hydrogen and chlorine by electrolyzing an aq. alkali chloride soln., finger-type anodes coated with cation exchange membranes 3 on the surfaces thereof and a cathode are combined in a liner system. Two sheets of the anode side walls 1, 1' of each anode in its leading end part 4 are coupled elastically by means of a resin or metal. Since the leading ends of the anodes are held closed in the stage of combining the anodes with the cathode in a liner system, the anodes can be set without damaging the membranes 3. When electrolysis is started, the resin or the metal dissolves in a short time, and the walls 1, 1' sticks tightly to the cation exchange membranes by the effect of the elastic forces of the walls 1, 1'.
