Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency in welding and cutting by charging a working gas electrostatically beforehand and creating a magnetic field in a specific direction in an ejection port for the plasma arc thereby focusing plasma arc flow. CONSTITUTION:The electrode 1 in a nozzle 2 and the work 6 are connected to an electric power source 3, and the plasma arc 5 is generated from the electrode 1 toward the work 6, by which the work 6 is welded or cut. A working gas such as Ar is passed through the nozzle inside in an arrow direction. Here, an electromagnet 4 is fixed to the leading end of the nozzle 2 to create a magnetic field 7 of, for example, a clockwise circle when viewed from above around the arc 5 toward the direction at a right angle to the ejecting direction of the arc 5. The polarities of the electrode 1 as the cathode and the work 6 as the anode or those reverse therefrom are conceivable but the determination of whether positive or reverse polarities in order to focus the arc 5 depends on the materials to be worked, etc. Here, the polarities are reversed to generate a clockwise circular magnetic field 8. By the mutual magnetic effects of the magnetic fields 7, 8, the forces toward the center of the arc 5 act from the circumference, and the arc 5 is thoroughly focused to a circular shape of a small section before it arrives at the work 6.
