MOLD FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING

PURPOSE:To prevent scratch flaws owing to the movement of short side parts by forming porous metallic layers on the inside surfaces in the long parts of molds and impregnating said layers with a lubricating material. CONSTITUTION:Both side parts 6, 6 and lower part 7 of the inside surfaces in the long side parts 5 of molds for continuous casting and formed of porous metallic layers. The inside of said layers is impregnated with a high temp. lubricating material such as MoS2, WS2 BN, (CF)n or the like to have sliding lubricity. These porous layers are formed by either porous plating or metal melt spraying method, and by the proper adaptation of both methods, the porous layers are formed on the inside surfaces in the parts 5 of the molds. Since the molds in the short side parts slide smoothly on the lubricating material impregnated in the porous metallic layers, scratch flaws are prevented.
