MAGNETIC RECORDING TAPE AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PURPOSE:To make tape processing for the improvement of the magnetic recording characteristics easy and to obtain a magnetic recording tape with improved magnetic recording characteristics, by treating under heating after rolling and bonding of overlapped magnetic and nonmagnetic metallic foils. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic or a nonmagnetic material, taking respective rolling performance into account, are hot or cold-rolled to 0.05-5mm. to form foil or thin plate individually and they are overlapped. The ratio of thickness of both the materials is suitably determined by taking the rolling performance and the ratio of the recording layer thickness to the entire thickness of tape into consideration. Further, the overlapped magnetic and nonmagnetic metallic foils 12 and 11 are rolled to bond the both. The bonded body is processed for intermediate annealing in which it is annealed at, e.g. 900-1,200 deg.C for 30min-2hr under inactive atmosphere and cooled, and rolled respectively, to obtain a laminated tape having about 2-30mum thickness. Time aging processing for the improvement of magnetic characteristics is carried out for the obtained laminated tape.
