ELECTRIC JAPANESE LANGUAGE TYPEWRITER

PURPOSE:To reduce an occupying space with a smaller size of a motor by a method wherein a light type bar alone is moved horizontally to pick up types from a type tray with longuitudinal movement thereof, shifted to the printing position and returned to the original position after the printing. CONSTITUTION:A code of characters to be printed and position information are recorded on an external recorder, for example, a paper tape. In typing, the information is read with a processing section to control a motor 7 so that a type case 6 is moved longuitudinally to bring a type train containing intended characters below the level of the type bar 8. At the same time, with the driving of the motor 9, the type bar 8 moves to the line corresponding to the intended characters to pick up the characters and then, shifts to the printing position. A platen 12 is turned with a motor 13 to match the vertical printing position and the type bar 8 is turned with a motor 11 through a supporting member 10 to perform a printing. Then, the types are stored in place. This eliminates a heavy type tray and the horizontal movement of the platen thereby reducing the size and the number of the motor. This also enables the use of continuous paper and reduction in the occupying space on the desk.
