Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To obtain a linear scale main body having no joint at a low cost, by manufacturing continuously the linear scale main body provided with detecting edges by press forming from a band plate. CONSTITUTION:Sinusoidal wave-shaped or similar notches 12 and a flat edge part 27 are provided to male dies 21, 26. Plural punches 11 are disposed at the male dies and plural positioning pins 24 with the same pitch are arranged at the side of a carrying part of a material. The linear scale main body having detecting edges 2 at one side edge of a metallic plate A is manufactured with the dies 21, 26 and the punches 11 by pushing the belt-like metallic plate A in an X direction by every pitch L in order intermittently.
