Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent immunity-activating agent, antitumoric agent or thickneing agent, by using a novel macromolecular polysaccharide substance MPS-83 which is produced from macromolecular polysaccharide substance MPS- 83-producing bacteria belonging to genus Lactobacillus as an effective component. CONSTITUTION:Macromolecular polysaccharide substance MPS-83 is obtained by culturing macromolecular polysaccharide substance MPS-83-producing bacteria (e.g., Lactobacillus S-10-LR, FERM BP-127, which are bacteria separated from a dairy product and deposited with the Fermentation Research Institute) and then separating and recovering the substance from the liquid and bacterial fractins of the culture. As a culture medium, a lactic acid bacteria-culturing medium containing skim milk, whey or the like is preferred. The culturing is performed satisfactorily under conditions including, for example, 20-45 deg.C, CO2 atmosphere and stationary culture.
