Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium especially superior in traveling performance and abrasion resistance, by forming a thin magnetic metallic film on a support, subjecting it to a warm and moist atmosphere till its contact angle with water becomes a specified value, then, coating this film with a thin polymer soln. film, and after drying, coating with a laubricant or the like. CONSTITUTION:A ferromagnetic metallic thin film of metal or alloy, such as Co or Fe-Ni is formed on a supprt, such as polyester film, by a vapor deposition method or the like, it is left in the air at >=0 deg.C till its contact angle with water becomes >=25 deg., then, it is coated with a soln. of polymer, e.g., thermoplastic resin, such as vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, or a thermosetting resin, such as phenolic resin, and dried to form a 0.5-100nm thin film. This resin film is coated with a soln. or liquid dispersion of an org. lubricant, such as myristic acid or stearyl alcohol, or inoragnic lubricant, such as MoS, or it may be coated with a soln. contg. both lubricant and resin, thus obtaining a magnetic tape, etc. having enhanced traveling performance and abrasion resistance, and retaining these characteristics for a long term.
