Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To reduce the coefft. of friction of a back layer, to improve the running stability, and to enhance the running durability of a magnetic layer by forming the back layer contg. inorg. powder on one side of a polymer support having a ferromagnetic thin metallic film on the other side as the magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:A thin film of a ferromagnetic metal such as Co or Ni or a ferromagnetic alloy is formed on one side of a polymer support by vacuum deposition or other method. A back layer contg. inorg. powder of MoS2, SiO2, CaCO3 or the like having 0.02-0.5mum average particle size and >=2.5 Mohs' hardness, a binder and an adequate amount of a lubricant such as fatty acid, fatty acid amide or higher alcohol is formed on the other side of the support. The preferred binder is synthetic resin having >=40 deg.C glass transition point. The coefft. of friction of the back layer is reduced, the running stability is improved, and the running durability of the magnetic layer is enhanced.
