It has ripe fruity flavor having light woody note, and is useful for improving the taste and flavor of tobacco prepared from leaf tobacco, regenerated tobacco, synthetic tobacco, etc. having poor flavor and undesirable irritant taste, and lack of agreeable taste. PROCESS:The leaves of virginia tobacco are extracted with methanol, the extract is subjected to steam distillation, and volatile neutral fraction is obtained by conventional process. The fraction is then subjected to silica gel column chromatography and fractional gas chromatography to obtain the compound of formula.
