MANUFACTURE OF CATIONIC METHINE DYES

Methine dyestuffs of the formula (I) are prepared by subjecting a compound (V) to a condensation reaction with a compound A-CHO (VI) and with 1 to 5 equivalents of an inorganic acid in the presence of 0-30% by weight of an organic solvent and 0-15% by weight of water.
