Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To stabilize and improve the life of a casting mold and to improve the quality of an ingot by spreading a carbon layer on the surface of the body of a casting mold made of copper or copper alloy in contact with molten steel. CONSTITUTION:A carbon layer 2 is spread over the entire part or on some part of the inside surface of the body 1 of a casting mold made of copper or copper alloy. An intermediate coating layer 3 consisting of nickel or a nickel alloy is spread over the entire or a part of the inside surface of the body 1. The seizure with molten steel does not arise at all because the carbon layer which sticks hardly to molten steel and has high lubricity is formed in tight contact the surface of the mold in contact with the molten steel at high temp.
