Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To provide superior wear resistance to a raw material without damaging the heat treatment history of the raw material by plating the surface of the raw material with chromium, further coating it with a boron compound, and irradiating laser beams. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a metallic raw material is plated with chromium by electrolysis or other method, and the plated layer is coated with a compound contg. boron such as B4C or Na2B4O7. Laser beams of CO2 or the like are then irradiated on the surface of the coated layer in an inert gaseous atmosphere or the like, and the laser beam source itself or the raw material is scanned. By the laser beam irradiation an alloy layer is formed on the surface of the metallic raw material. The raw material treated by this method has superior wear and corrosion resistances without damaging the heat treatment history of the raw material.
