EXAMPLE:m-Phenoxybenzyl 2-azidomethyl-3,3-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate. USE:Insecticide having comparable or higher insecticidal activity than allethrin. PROCESS:The compound of formulaIcan be prepared by (1) reacting the bicyclolactone of formula II or the ester of formula III (R' is lower alkyl) with an alkali metal hydroxide, (2) reacting the product with the compound of formula RY (Y is Cl, Br etc.) to obtain the hydroxyester of formula IV, (3) reacting the ester with a halogenation agent or a sulfonylation agent, and (4) reacting the resultant compound of formula V (X is halogen or sulfonyloxy) with the reaction reagent of formula R M (M is alkali metal atom or tetraalkylammonium).
