Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To prepare 1-butene useful as a raw material of L-LDPE and polybutene resin, etc., economically, by the catalytic dimerization of ethylene using a catalyst comprising a combination of a specific siloxytitanium compound and a specific organoaluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:1-Butene is prepared by the catalytic reaction of ethylene using a catalyst system composed of (A) a siloxytitanium compound of formula Ti (OR )n(OSiR 3)4-n (R and R are 1-12C alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl; n is integer of 0-3) and (B) an organoaluminum compound of formula AlR2X (R is 1-12C alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl; X is R, H or 1-12C alkoxy). The by- production of 2-butene can be suppressed, the selectivity of 1-butene to the charged ethylene can be remarkably improved, and the catalytic activity can be highly increased by the use of the catalyst system.
