Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To enable to start an engine promptly even at the time of low-temperature starting of the engine, by performing a short-period, large-current ignition so that even a fuel having poor vaporizing properties is ignited in a reliable manner. CONSTITUTION:In ordinary operation of an engine, a long-period discharge is caused by shifting a selector switch 16 to a side (a) by a relay 17 and thereby applying the ignition energy accumulated in a capacitor 15 of a second igniting power source 4 via a secondary winding 11a of an ignition coil 11 after starting of discharge of ignition plugs 6 caused by the voltage induced by the secondary coil 11a. Resultantly, the specific fuel consumption of the engine is lowered. At the time of starting the engine, on the other hand, the selector switch 16 is shifted to the side (b) to impress a large amount of ignition energy in the capacitor 15 through low-speed rotation of the engine directly across the electrodes of the ignition plugs 6. By thus performing a short-period, large-current ignition, it is enabled to ignite even a fuel having poor vaporizing properties and to improve the engine starting performance at the time of low-temperature starting of the engine.
