TESTING METHOD OF STRESS CORROSION CRACKING

PURPOSE:To make the quantitative evaluation of sensitivity to stress corrosion cracking possible by making use of the fact that the quantity of strain decreases when stress corrosion cracking arises in a test body which is kept applied with static strain and measuring the change in the strain when said cracking arises. CONSTITUTION:When a test body 1 is placed on jigs 2, and is applied with bending load by means of a pressing jig 3, the surface on the outside circumferential side is held in a specified static strain state. The quantity of the strain in this state is detected with a strain gage 4 adhered to the jig 3, and is recorded in a recorder 6 through a stain gate 6. When cracking arises and propagates, the strain loaded upon the body 1 is released, and the change in the strain is recorded in the recorder 6. Thus, the time required for the generation and propagation of the stress corrosion cracking is measured accurately.
