PURPOSE:To obtain an image high in contrast and low in uneven development and stains, by repeating contact of the photosensitive layer surface of a silver halide photosensitve material contg. a spcified compd. with a developing roller and its stop of contact in >=6 times, and limiting a time from development to fixing. CONSTITUTION:In processing a silver halide photosensitive material in an automatic developing machine, said material contains a tetrazolium compd. represented by formulaI, II, or III (R1, R3, R4, R5, R8, R9, R10, and R11 are each alkyl, aryl, heterocyclic, or the like; R2, R6, and R7 are each aryl, heterocyclic, alkyl, OH, amino, nitro, H, or the like; D is a divalent aromatic group; E is alkylene, arylene, or the like; X is an anion; and (n) is 1 or 2), a cycle of contact and noncontact of the photosensitive layer surface of said material with a diveloping roller is repeated in >=6 times, and a time length required for taking the material out of a developing soln. and bringing it into a fixing soln. is controlled
