Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To effectively adsorb and decolor not only anionic color substances but also the others by using a cellulose grafted with a given proportion of a cationic monomer as a decolor agent. CONSTITUTION:A cellulose[e.g., used paper pulp-4-vinylpyridine (WP-VP)]is grafted with 0.1-20% cationic monomer to prepare a decolor agent. The cationic monomer used includes a substance of the formula. In preparing the decolor agent, used paper is dipped in peracetic acid, excessive peracetic acid is removed by water washing, and then nitric acid and ammonium ferrous sulfate in an amount enough to neutralize DM and DM of the formula are added to the used paper so pretreated and the used paper is subjected to a heat polymerization in a current of N2. Thus, the product of graft polymerization, or a decolor agent, thus obtained can be effectively used in the decolorization of industrial effluents.
