COMPRESSING SYSTEM OF DATA

PURPOSE:To obtain a code conversion table of small size, by assigning a different variable length code to each fixed length code, properly using plural code conversion tables, and converting a code. CONSTITUTION:A fixed length code is inputted in order by 1 character each to an input register 7 from an input data group 1. Entry addresses of a code conversion table 7 or 8 are derived simultaneously from the first and second byte values of the register 7, respectively. A variable length code 10 and code length 11 of the variable length code being contents of a table designated by these entry addresses are stored simultaneously in an output register 12 and 13 of the code conversion table. A code assembling circuit 14 refers to the register 12 and 13, assembles a variable length code combining the variable length code indicated by the register 13, just behind the variable length code indicated by the register 12, and outputs it to an output register 15. The variable length code outputted to the register 15 is transferred in order to an output data group 2.
