LIQUID COOLED NUCLEAR REACTOR

A liquid-cooled nuclear reactor contains, in the upper part of the pressure vessel, a vertical tube (15) open at top and bottom and containing a measuring device (20) for determining the liquid level inside the tube. Pref., at a short distance below the lower end of the tube, a baffle, either in the form of a plate (19) esp. with upturned edges or in the form of a crank in the tube, is provided. Used for a water reactor, esp. a pressurised water reactor, for the fault cases in which the coolant can foam. The tube with the baffle plate at the bottom measures the liquid level after the foam has been collapsed and thus enables an accurate determn. of the coolant level to be achieved.
