Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To achieve high-precision positioning by providing rails horizontally at positions lower than a gravity-center axis on both sides of a carriage and by engaging bearings with the rails vertically symmetrically. CONSTITUTION:In a magnetic disk device having a direct advance type voice coil motor, rails 11a and 11b are provided to a base 10 horizontally at positions lower than the gravity-center axis of a carriage 2 on both sides of it. Then, the carriage 2 is supported being sandwiched between three couples of bearings 15a (16a), 15b (16b), and 15c (16c) on both sides of the rails 11a and 11b, and those couples of bearings are engaged with the rails vertically symmetrically. Further, the bearings 15c (16c) is pressed against the rail 11b all the time. Consequently, the carriage 2 is supported on a base 10 securely and freely rotatably, and both the rails are equipped directly on the base 10 to eliminate the need for a supporting member, so that high- precision positioning is achieved by a miniaturized supporting mechanism.
