Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a steroid for preparing spironolactone as diuretic in high yield, by adding acetylene to a reaction product of caustic potash with an alcohol to give an adduct, followed by reacting the adduct with 3beta-acetoxyandrost- 5-ene-17-one. CONSTITUTION:Caustic potash is reacted with an alcohol in a nonproton organic solvent(e.g., tetrahydrofuran, etc.) at 10 deg.C-about the reflux temperature to give a reaction product, which is reacted with acetylene at -20-20 deg.C. The prepared acetylene adduct is reacted with 3beta-acetoxyandrost-5-ene-17-one at -50-+20 deg.C, to give the desired 17alpha-ethynylandrost-5-ene-3,17-diol.
