THEOPHYLLIN GRADUALLY RELEASING COMPOSITION

PURPOSE:The titled composition that is mainly composed of theophyllin gradually releasing granules as the major component, which are coated with a film consisting of a substance selected from oil or fat and a hydrophobic fine powder, thus being effective for bronchial asthma. CONSTITUTION:Granules containing theophyllin are coated with a film composed of (A) fat, wax, higher fatty acid, higher alcohol, polyhydric alcohol or their mixture melting at higher than 40 deg.C, and of (B) a hydrophobic fine powder to give these granules of gradually releasing properties. Component B is, e.g., calcium stearate. Component A may be contained in the original granules. The content of component A is preferably 3-30wt% based on the resultant granules and B is 5-40wt%. The granules are prepared into granules, tablets, or capsules and used as a preventive or remedy for bronchial asthma.
