Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To reduce running costs in a normal time and to make dealing with abnormal time possible by making use of gravity flow-down for constant removal of excess sludge, regulating the constant rate of removal through valve operation, and intermittently operating an excess sludge pump only in the abnormal time and when the storage into an excess sludge tank is excessive. CONSTITUTION:While a sewage treatment process is stable, excess sludge is removed through an excess sludge removal pipe 8 into an excess sludge tank 4 by making use of gravity flow-down, and the constant rate of removal is regulated by adjusting the opening of an excess sludge removal valve 5. At this time, a bypass valve 6 and an excess sludge discarding valve 7 are held closed. In the abnormal time when the rate of sludge removal with gravity flow-down is insufficient, the valve 5 and the valve 7 are closed, the valve 6 is opened and an excess sludge pump 9 is started to remove the sludge directly from a final settling basin 3.
