Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:Acidic or activated clay is calcined to give a high active catalyst and diisobutylene is subjected to catalytic dimerization using the catalyst to produce tetraisobutylene in high selectivity and yield. CONSTITUTION:Acidic or activated clay or silica-alumina is calcined. Then, the dimerization of diisobutylene is conducted in the presence of the resultant catalyst at 40-150 deg.C under normal pressure for 0.2-20hr to produce tetraisobutylene selectively. The acidic or activated clay is calcined at 400-600 deg.C and silica- alumina is at 450-850 deg.C in air for 3-8hr. The amount of the catalyst used in the reaction is 1-10wt% based on diisobutylene, when the reaction is carried out batchwise. Diisobutylene, as the starting material, is preferably free from trimer or other impurities and the water content is required to be less than 0.001wt%. |
